The idea of a winery in the Prairie of Western Nebraska was born in 2000 when several growers planted grapes in the North Platte Valley. The UNL Experimental Farm had planted grapes in 1998 and put on a seminar to inform locals of the possibility of grapes for wine production in Western Nebraska in spring of 1999.
The next Spring Allen Gall and Curtis Cloud established grapes in the North Platte Valley North of the River in Sioux County. Allen Gall immediately started making wine at his home and has progressed into quite a wine maker. Allen is allergic to alcohol so he must rely on his other senses, mostly smell, to produce the final product. The first harvest was in 2003 with a
light harvest due to a late freeze in May. Allen contracted with Lovers Leap Vineyards in Crawford Nebraska, a bonded Nebraska winery, to produce the first crops wine.
We currently have 16 different wines. In 2004 Prairie Vine Winery was born, licensed and bonded in the state of Nebraska on the 2nd of December 2004 with a class Y “Farm Winery Permit”.
